Ojezua wants his supporters to remain steadfast with confidence that he remains in the contest and by no means has any intention whatsoever to step down from the race. He says, ‘I have a lot to offer the people of Edo State both in politics and administration and I am passionate about it. I do not represent myself; I represent the people who believe in me, my ability to deliver on good governance as well as unify the party.’

As part of preparations towards Edo 2024 gubernatorial election, one of the leading aspirants Anselm Ojezua has continued consultations with party leaders and stalwarts to canvass for their support to bring his ambition to fruition.
Ojezua who recently met with the executives and leaders of the PDP in Ikekato Ward 4 of Esan Central LGA formally declared his intention to his people ahead of the party primary.
He said, “The reason I requested for this meeting is to formally inform you of my decision to contest for governor of Edo state 2024 after the tenure of His Excellency, Godwin Obaseki”.
“Some of you may be wondering why I have waited until now for this formal declaration, when you may have previously heard of my intentions from unofficial sources”.
Ojezua said, “The truth is that, when I made up my mind on this subject matter, first, I sought the blessings and prayers of the Odionwele of my immediate Community, Idinobi in Ikekato, Irrua and the Odionwele of Udowo also in Ikekato, Irrua. Thereafter, I received royal blessings from the Ojirrua of Irrua and the Okaijesan of Esan Land, His highness W. O. Momodu II.”
The Governorship hopeful noted that the role of leaders in the task ahead cannot be overlooked, hence his decision to consult with PDP stalwarts across the state.
”Knowing that this position I seek is statewide, not just here in Esan, it compasses the three senatorial districts of the state, I have consulted with prominent leaders of PDP in Edo South, North and here in Esan Land”.
Recounting his experience in his consultation visits so far, Anselm Ojezua says the leaders were not only in agreement for an Esan Governor, they were also favorably disposed to him as the preferred choice based on their personal knowledge of him and remarkable reputation. He has therefore come home to seek their support and prayers.

Anselm Ojezua, the leading PDP Governorship aspirant on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, met with the PDP Edo Central Senatorial Executives and Leaders at the party secretariat in Uromi to declare his intention to contest for Governor of Edo State in 2024. While addressing the leaders in the district he stated that the perennial problem confronting governance in Edo has been due to the inability of the principal leaders to manage their relationships; he emphasized the detrimental impact of isolating party leaders from governance under the guise of technocracy.
Ojezua questioned the deliberate sidelining of leaders crucial to the party’s emergence. He stressed that anyone who is instrumental to installing a Governor must be entitled to participate in Governance. According to Ojezua, a Governor’s success hinges on the collective efforts and participation of all concerned.
He asserted that since the problem is political, the solution can only be found in an experienced politician who must possess the requisite skill; he therefore offered himself for the task because of his long-term experience in politics coupled with a robust record in various aspects of Government over time. Ojezua acknowledged not being a billionaire but believed that goodwill is more relevant than money in politics.
Finally, he urged the leaders to take the exercise very seriously because of the existential threat that confronts them urging them to protect their own interests by supporting him.
The party’s Zonal Chairman, represented by the Zonal Secretary, acknowledged Ojezua as a strong candidate but cautioned that collaboration with his team would determine his acceptability.
“I can assure you on behalf of the Executives and the leaders here, we are going to have a credible, free and fair primary election and if a candidate emerges, we are all expected to collaborate with that candidate”.

With barely ten months to the election into the exalted office of the governor of Edo State at Osadebey Avenue, the heat is on, and many aspirants in different political platforms are exploiting media spaces to galvanize the electorate for support and votes.
Election into various positions in the Nigerian democratic system requires the conduct of Primaries to pick the best in an array of qualified men and women under a political affiliation. This may be through voting or consensus.
As the day draws near to pick the gubernatorial flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Edo State, one man stands out in the pack. He’s an astute political juggernaut, a self-effacing and altruistic personality with no mean repute! A lawyer by profession and a listening ear. He is Anselm Ojezua (Esq.). This sound mind is a loyal party man who had served diligently and worked assiduously for the ascension of past and present governors of Edo State.
Barr. Ojezua is an altruistic leader. I recall he shared his first salary he earned as a commissioner in Adams Oshiomhole’s administration. I got a percentage of it. Not all politicians are selfless. He is not like others who don’t pick calls. A friend came to me requesting my assistance to help him secure a lecturing job at Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma. Anselm Ojezua was the first person I called, and he responded swiftly. Long story cut short; my friend today is an academic staff of the AAU. It was Ojezua’s handiwork! And so many instances like that. He is a good man with a heart of gold. Indeed, Anselm Ojezua is a rare breed.
So, as the PDP prepares for the primaries soon, it’s expedient to zone the governorship seat to Edo Central senatorial district for equity. It’s the turn of Esan people. It’s incumbent on the party leadership to consider this gentle giant and hand over the ticket to him as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party.
